Chef d’orchestre – Compositeur

Martin Lebel est actuellement Directeur musical de l’Orchestre symphonique de Xalapa (Mexique), poste auquel il a été nommé pour une période de huit ans (2020-2027).

De 2013 à 2015, il a été Directeur musical de l’Orchestre philharmonique de Montevideo (Uruguay), après avoir dirigé, dès 2009, l’Orchestre de Karlovy Vary (République tchèque). En reconnaissance de son engagement artistique, la ville de Karlovy Vary lui a décerné le titre de Citoyen d’honneur en mai 2014. Il y occupe aujourd’hui le titre de Directeur honoraire et collabore régulièrement avec l’orchestre.

Lauréat du Premier Grand Prix de direction d’orchestre au concours international Prokofiev de Saint-Pétersbourg en 2003, Martin Lebel fut le premier chef français distingué à ce prestigieux concours triennal. À la suite de cette distinction, il a été invité à diriger à plusieurs reprises l’Orchestre philharmonique de Saint-Pétersbourg.

Également compositeur, il est l’auteur notamment d’une Élégie pour orchestre à cordes et d’un Concerto pour deux clarinettes et orchestre, parmi d’autres œuvres.

Pianiste et violoncelliste de formation, Martin Lebel a été quadruple lauréat du Conservatoire national supérieur de musique de Paris, obtenant les prix de fugue, contrepoint, orchestration et direction d’orchestre.

En 1991, il obtient le Certificat d’aptitude à l’enseignement de l’écriture et est nommé professeur au Conservatoire régional de Douai, où il enseigne cette discipline jusqu’en 1996.

Martin Lebel is currently the Music Director of the Xalapa Symphony Orchestra (Mexico), a position to which he was appointed for a period of eight years (2020-2027).

From 2013 to 2015, he was Music Director of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Montevideo (Uruguay), after having directed, in 2009, the Karlovy Vary Orchestra (Czech Republic). In recognition of his artistic commitment, the city of Karlovy Vary awarded him the title of Honorary Citizen in May 2014. He now holds the title of honorary director and regularly collaborates with the orchestra.

Winner of the First Grand Prix for conducting at the international Prokofiev competition in Saint-Petersburg in 2003, Martin Lebel was the first French conductor to be distinguished at this prestigious triennial competition. Following this distinction, he was invited to conduct the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra on several occasions.

As a composer, he has written, among other works, an Elegy for string orchestra and a Concerto for Two Clarinets and Orchestra, among other works.

Pianist and cellist by training, Martin Lebel was a quadruple laureate of the Conservatoire de Paris, obtaining prizes in fugue, counterpoint, orchestration and conducting.

In 1991, he obtained the Certificate of Aptitude for Teaching Writing and was appointed professor at the Regional Conservatory of Douai, where he taught this discipline until 1996.
